Recognising the muddy middle is a skill in itself. It tells you that you're getting there, that the change you want is happening. But it also doesn't feel as you have. It can feel as though you are crawling through the Slough of Despond. The monsters of doubt and fear lurk in muddy corners ready to jump out and frighten you. Their trails convince you that you will never crack the problem. It's just the point where support and a helpful and kind push from a friend can push you out of that mudbath. But it is also when so many give up and keep their status quo. It takes a lot to come out of that muddy middle. More power to those who actually make it.

"Slough of Despond" Me thinks I'll steal that. ;)

By the way, "you will never crack the problem" that's what Seth Godin calls the "dip" and it indeed causes many to quit when it usually is right before a breakthrough...

Slough of Despond is from John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress written in 1678. It really sums up that dip! I like the muddy middle!
